THEY CAME, THEY SAW, THEY LAID A BEAT DOWN
So I think it’s safe to say that the entire world thought (besides Floyd Mayweather, look it up) that Alabama would blow out Michigan. That happened. The Maize and Blue had no chance from start to finish in that 41-14 romp. But let’s curve the enthusiasm. Yes Alabama is talented, and poised to make another run toward a National Title, But anyone that watches college football closely, knew the Wolverines were the most over rated #8 team in the country. The win was great, But if you could talk to Tide coach Nick Saban in private, he would have told you that Michigan had no shot. Brady Hoke’s team will be good (in 2013), but I think they will have some problems throughout this season. And let’s hope Michigan doesn’t lose to Alabama twice… they play that triple option attack of Air Force this week.
TIGERS WIN, JUST NOT THE TIGERS ON THE PLAINS
Yes, Auburn loss the game to Clemson, but Tigers fans have to be encouraged from what they saw Saturday night. The defense played good enough to win, Kiehl Frazier showed that he can be VERY good once he gets more starts under his belt. It was simple. Clemson had enough playmakers. Even with Andre Ellington’s big night rushing, QB Tajh Boyd’s constantly extending the play was the reason for Auburn’s demise. Still, Auburn has to get ready, quickly, they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State Saturday.
SMILE ROCKY TOP! YOU’RE 1-0!
After a crazy off season for Head Coach Derek Dooley and the hot seat chatter, he was all smiles (even with that leather helmet on..huh?) after the Vols win over NC State 35-21. You had to be impressed with how the offense and defense played inside the Georgia Dome. and It’s safe to say that Cordarelle Patterson will be a household name by the end of the month. Still the Vols 1-0, with a layup against Georgia State Saturday… then… the Florida Gators come to town in two weeks.
I GOT THE NEED FOR SPEED
The constant theme that stuck out to me after week one… There are some fast, REALLY FAST teams in the country. Oregon and DeAnthony Thomas (AKA the “Black Mamba”) dropped 50.. IN THE SECOND QUARTER against Gus Malzhan and Arkansas State. West Virgina, scored 70 in their bowl win last season. To start the year? 69 against Marshall. It’s just crazy to me how fast these teams are playing, scary for upcoming opponents.
STARS OF WEEK ONE
TJ Yeldon, RB, Alabama– The Daphne, AL native rushed for 111 yards and a TD, in his first start. First frosh to rush for over a 100 in Alabama history.
DeAnthony Thomas RB, Oregon– 119 total yards, 3 total TD’s in win over Arkansas State
Andre Ellington, RB Clemson-A career best 231 yards in win over Auburn
Geno Smith, QB West Virginia- 32-36, 323 yards, 4 TD’s in the Mountaineers win over Marshall
BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT IN WEEK ONE
I know that you are supposed to walk into UTEP and win going away against an inferior opponent, but to be up only 10-7 heading into the 4th Qtr? Cause for concern. Paging Landry Jones, and the Sooners defense. Really? I love Bob Stoops (and his visor), but you gotta give me more than what I saw in that 24-7 win.
OTHER TEAM DUDS
Texas State over Houston 30-13
Youngstown St Over Pittsburgh 31-17
Nevada over Cal 31-24
PLAY OF WEEK ONE
There are no words for Kent State’s Andre Parker. His team is receiving a punt from their opponent Towson State. The rest is for you to watch:
REALITY TV DRAMA
Yes. I watch reality TV. ALOT of it. And yes I watch everything Real Housewives. What I saw Monday night on the Real Housewives of New York, was arguably the best of the series of New York. Aviva went off on Ramona and Sonja, Johnny Depp, I mean Tomaez and Sonja getting close.. and just the sheer madness from start to finish was great. But Aviva and her crazy Totally took the cake last night.
That’s it folks, Check back in Thursday for week 2 preview of college football!
